Sorry for short notice on this one. We have only just been able to confirm a venue at a time that worked.
The summer season is about to kick off in earnest and we want to ensure that the fleet is as well briefed as possible before the first start.
Remember sailing is self policed (usually) and is definitely not a contact sport! :)
Who?
International Judge Mike Alison is an excellent and experienced facilitator of these types of session. He has kindly agreed to run a workshop on the specific rules that keep a close and competitive one design, windward leeward fleet in order around a tight track like the North Sail Young 88 Sprints
What?
We will focus on the parts of the race that cause the most issues and the rules that relate:
Starts - your rights and how to stay out of trouble,
Port v starboard to windward - rights and obligations
Top mark approach/rounding - what to watch out for & what changes if it's a starboard rounding???
Overlap downwind - how to manage this tricky situation
Bottom mark rounding - right of way in different situations. It ain't that simple!
Finishing on opposite gybes or overlapped - resolving this conflict before someone sees red!
This session will focus on a specific set of rules and is aimed at those with some experience.
Hungry and/or thirsty? Order food and drink on the night including the Tuesday curry special from the RNZYS Members Bar. Menus are at the bottom of the page at this link https://www.rnzys.org.nz/members-bar/
The Y88 Association strategy around the sprints has been tweaked this season to build on the coaching we have done previously. This session will be the first in a program on water coaching and Zoom debriefs from Class sponsors Norths Sails and Harken covering topics like crew work, boat set up, sails and trim, tactics, tide/weather
