Hi
There been some great action lately!
Flash Gordon Cleans Up in the Young 88 1-2-3 Series.
Flash Gordon dominated the Young 88 1-2-3 Series by winning over the line in every race in the 12 race series over three days of sailing. Heartlight came second and Inner Circle was third over the line.
The same three yachts also headed the handicap with Inner Circle first, Flash Gordon second, and Heartlight third.
The 1-2-3 Series started with 3 single handed races using harbour courses on the 13 April, followed by a two handed day of 5 windward – leeward races on the 18 May and then a three handed day of another 5 windward – leeward races on the 15 June. Bucklands Beach Yacht Club once again ran a very well organised series. Thanks to BBYC, and congrats to the winners.
A total of 9 yachts entered the series, and it would be great to see more yachts enter next year.
Other News
SSANZ:

The SSANZ Lewmar Triple Series is underway with the first race on 12 July. There were 12 Young 88s entered making it the largest one design fleet in the series. The weather threw a bit of everything against the fleet, from 5 - 22 knots from NW to SW.
Mindbender took line honours with Sister Moonshine first on handicap. Entries for individual days are available so come and join us for some great racing. There’s no excuse of finding crew, you only need two!
Winter Club Racing: Club winter racing is keeping the racing fleet almost as busy as during summer.
Pier L Westhaven:
The Westhaven fleet are now largely congregating on L Pier with 12 Young 88s berthed on the pier. Many thanks to Bruce Scott for co-ordinating this with the marina.

Young 88 Finances
We have had larger outgoings than normal with restocking the shop with: clothing, windows, and toe rails. We have future expenses with moving the Young88 molds to a new home and purchasing the mast extrusions to have these in stock. We’d really appreciate it if any outstanding invoices were paid now. This will help with the cash flow! Reminder invoices have been sent out.
MAST Project Update:
As discussed at the AGM, there are no longer any extrusions out there for Y88 masts and although it is possible to get an extrusion produced, a single extrusion will be prohibitively expensive.
The association has decided to invest in, and pay for 4 extrusions to be made. This helps reduce the costs signigificantly. We will hold these in stock, you will be able to be purchase via the Y88 shop. As we have also negotiated to control the the die, we plan to hold a number in stock to cover future need and to enable fast turn-around for those who need new masts. We expect that these will be available from late September. This is great news for all, and we will be confirming the costs and what is covered in a following newsletter.
