Record Young 88 fleet for the first of the SSANZ Lewmar Triple Series races.
17 Young 88s competed in the first Lewmar Triple Series race yesterday. ....
Harry Thurston and crew showed their talent once again last weekend. They faced varied conditions ranging from 20 to 25 knots on the first day where skill, weight and hard hiking was vital to 0 to 10 knots on the second day.
The national Young 88 fleet has awoken from a long covid slumber and is shaking it off with some very successful summer events in the run up to the 2024 Harken Young 88 Nationals.....
The fleets are regrouping after what looked like successful summer sojourns.
Now it gets real with the build up to the marquee regattas in the North and South.
A couple of requests.....
Bay of Islands Sailing Week you rock!
Competitive fun sailing. Great parties especially the cocktail competition. Congrats to the Kwaussies on Jamiroquai for that win.
Harry Thurston took out line honours with an almost perfect score,
Farewell 2023, you were OK and better than your recent predecessors. If the weather could be a bit better and less cyclone filled in 2024 then we will be very happy.
This is a quick recap on last year and preview of the upcoming events in2024……
This is a quick reminder re the upcoming Owners Champs on Sat 11th Nov (Sunday 12th weather reserve)
It is also a request to get your entry in now (not at the last minute) so our hard working organisers can complete planning.
All the info and links you need is on the Y88 event page here https://www.young88.org.nz/events/187269/ .......
And we are up to 6 entries for PIC Coastal Classic so far with Babe, Dilemma, Dynamo, Jamiroquai, War Machine and Young Mischief! With one month to go before entries close, we could beat our all time record of entries for the great race North.
Auckland Council are seeking feedback on the Ōrākei Local Board’s vision for The Landing at Ōkahu Bay.
You can see that vision at https://akhaveyoursay.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/thelanding2023 and it does not include a hardstand but instead uses that space for dinghy storage, and parking.
Many say that this short course windward leeward sprint racing some of the best fun racing that they do. It is a fantastic way to break up the summer work week and get some serious race practice for the skipper and crew......
The weather forecast for the SSANZ PIC 100 was much more civilised than that for the PIC 60 on the 1 July, so we had a great fleet of 15 Young 88s. The weather was better than forecast and the showers held off and the race was shortened and delayed by 30 minutes to let the breeze to fill.....
We are not referring to speed records here. Jim Young’s wonder boat cannot foil, is only 30 foot long and most of the fleet were designed and built last millennium. It can however still break its own records for race entries and do a quick change to take the family away cruising for summer!
Last weekend’s Harken Young 88 Nationals saw a typically competitive and on form fleet assemble to battle it out on the full length and mostly “Riviera free” racecourse North of Rangitoto.
