Another excellent SSANZ Series was topped off with a Shorthanded Sailing Association of New Zealand "do" ...
Last night was the 2022 PIC Insurance Brokers Triple Series Prize Giving ....... social, relaxed fun and funny.
We had our own fleet like usual in the RAILBLAZA division.
Next Saturday is the last race of Y88s @ PIC Insurance Brokers Triple Series
This year has been as competitive as ever with 9 in our division for the series and 11 boats in the last race. We are heading for at least 13 in the next race.....
The annual Mount Gay Rum Young 88 1-2-3 Series hosted by the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club might sound like a mouthful, but it’s an awesome wee event packed up nicely over three Sundays during the off-season here in Auckland, New Zealand. Actually… That’s not 100% correct – technically there is no “off-season” in Auckland – we pretty much sail all year round, regardless of the weather.
The weather forecast was bang on.... light and all over the place. Patience won out in the end. The breeze filled from the north and we got in one good race......
The North Sails Young 88 Southern Champs were held last weekend in the spectacular Akaroa Harbour completing the big two weeks of Young 88 racing. A solid 13 boat fleet came together to battle it out over the two-day regatta in conditions ranging from light airs and sunshine, through to 25 -30+ knots and less than 100 meters visibility. The event was a true test of woman, man, and machine.
Last weekend’s Harken Young 88 Nationals ducked, tacked and gybed to avoid infringing against Covid and its tricky rules. A typically varied and competitive fleet assembled with strong representation from the Americas Cup Alumni on Dean Barker’s Danger Zone, and Jonny Bell’s Undercover, the RNZYS Youth Training Program on Skitzo, the seasoned class stalwarts and new owners getting “the nats initiation”.
We hope you are doing OK in these strange times. Today's news re the move back to the red traffic light setting is not what we wanted to hear but also hardly a surprise.
The timing is not great either given that some of our marquee events occur in the next two months.
The Young 88 Association Committee has had quick catch up and agreed that given sailing is still permitted under red light settings, .....
The Ponsonby Sailing Club has agreed again, as part of the Ned Womens’ Summer Series 2022, to have a Young 88 division on its own. The first race is in less than two weeks’ time on Tuesday 1st February at 6.15 pm.....
For those in or near Auckland City on 27/01 1800 onwards, rally or join the troops, remove the rust and get in a few pre-regatta season practice laps. A great way to set the crew up for the Sprints, Nationals, Women's series, Auckland Regatta and any other racing. more...
Hi all,
I hope Santa delivered on that new 3Di Genoa and you have had, or are still having a great break. It has been another amazing summer for cruising. Fingers crossed the blue skies and fair winds will continue for the action packed 88 race program at both ends of the country......
Here’s to a long hot and free summer!
There have been a few changes to the program and a whole line up of great events right on the door step.
We have mixed it up even more this year and are trying some new ideas to ensure there is something for everyone, racer, cruiser, cruiser/racer, young, old, male, female, kids, no kids......
A smaller than normal but perfectly formed fleet made it out for a fantastic day's racing in the twice postponed Owners Champs.
Racing was incredibly close with only one point between the first three boats and everything on the line in the last race.
It's now official. Red light means go! For those north of the Bombay border this looks like freeeeeedommm...

Hi all,
I think those of us based in Auckland can see a few chinks of light at the end of the Covid Lockdown tunnel, we remain eternally optimistic and are planning accordingly.......
Hi all,
Given the way forward for the start of this season is anything but clear we thought we'd have a shot (scuse the pun:)) at at least sharing our strategy.....
Covid is causing all sorts of planning challenges......
Welcome to summer 21/22 and to what hopefully starts the return to normality. I hope you; your family and crew are well and coping OK with life's current challenges. We have plenty of news and things to look forward to and celebrate......
