88 Update - North Sails Owners Champs Covid Contingencies

Published Tue 09 Nov 2021

Hi all,

UBC Sailing Club - CoViD-19 Guidelines and Frequently Asked QuestionsI think those of us based in Auckland can see a few chinks of light at the end of the Covid Lockdown tunnel, we remain eternally optimistic and are planning accordingly.

Per last update we are implementing contingency plans referencing advice from Yachting New Zealand:

"The main government recommendations to come out of the last few days for Alert Level 3, Step 2 are as follows:

  • Double-handed and keelboat sailing with people outside your household is not allowed
  • Organised racing and events are not allowed
  • Overnight stays on boats are not allowed (in the same way overnighting at your bach is prohibited)"

We are planning on Auckland moving to the new traffic light system at the end of Nov/beginning Dec. We are hoping that we will be allowed to sail on Red albeit with strict guidelines. Yachting NZ are lobbying Sport NZ to get clarification on keelboat sailing ahead of any future alert level changes.

North Sails Owners Champs must now be postponed and we are working with Bucklands Beach Yacht Club (BBYC) the Organising Authority to confirm a new date of Sunday Dec 5th. We understand that this will not suit everybody, but this will be the last slot this year, so fingers crossed. Official notice will be posted by BBYC once confirmed.

Planning for 40th Anniversary Celebrations in December and Bay of Islands Sailing Week in January remain unchanged at this stage.

Keep an eye on the 88 Programme Calendar, stay healthy, wash your hands and be nice (during those marginal mark roundings we'll be doing again soon :) )

Regards

Mike
